To the Western world, Japanese people are perceived to be shy, and conservative. However, as we know Japan is a place of extreme contractions, the truth lurking behind such narrow surface deserves rigorous scrutiny. This article firstly explains the Japanese traditional view of sexuality, then goes onto stating trend of high school girl's compensated dating and its extension to other classes in the society, and finally ends by introducing a Japanese natural sexual fetish. All told, this essay demonstrates the fascinating notion of sex in Japan.

A "cut" version of Nobuyashi Araki's work

Japan is one of the most sexually liberated countries in the world. There is hardly any censorships, and what is considered to be pornography is just form of daily entertainment or masterpiece to Japanese people.

One notable example is the work of photographer Nobuyashi Araki. Throughout thirty five years of careers, his erotic images have achieved many acclaims yet controversy around the world: "I believe that in one's life, everything, including photography, should be erotic. Photography is my life, and my livelihood. I touch women with my eyes, and they respond to me with sexual desire, and become moist. We both become aroused and at the peak of our ecstasy, I press the shutter".

Not just photography, many forms of entertainment on theme of sexuality are commonplace in Japan. Hundreds of bars offer many variations of stripped shows, ranging from low, banal to bizarre, and extravagant ones. You can indulge yourself in those without any shames or embarrassment, as it is believed in Japan that sex, and naked bodies are beautiful, and can be openly enjoyed.

An important factor to explain the flourish of Japanese sex market is a traditional belief that love and sex do not go together, therefore, no one is bound by an intimacy of a relationship, or marriage. "To put it simply, it is okay to have sex without love. That is considered natural in Japanese culture" explained Shinji Miyadai, a sociologist.

In Japan, men are said to marry twice, once to their wives, and again to their companies. Even after work, the men go out with their colleagues, and a night on town often include a hosted spa or sex club. In reverse, from generations to generations, it has been taught to women that they are fated to serve men, mentally, and sexually. When a woman work as a prostitute, she is considered to fulfill her missions in a life time, at the same time, literally, she is not emotionally betraying her boyfriends, or husbands. Therefore, "women working in sex industry has never been considered particularly bad in Japan" - also said Mr Miyada. Simply put, people in Japan can have sex with many people as is not considered to violate their morality.

The popularity of love hotel is a clear demonstration for the flourish of sex market in Japan, at where you can rent a room on hours. Customers can be categorized in two kinds: one are office workers who seek for stress release during a working day via performing on having sex, and one are married couples who seek for own private spaces. The explanation for the second case is also easily come by. Tokyo is one of the most over-crowded cities in the world, couples often have to share bedrooms with their children because their apartments are tiny. So, they have to buy privacy in those love hotel.

There are many images that typify sexual desire of Japanese men but none more so than the concept of "Lollita" - an obsession with young girls. up which the whole sex industry has run around. In the 1990s, there erupted a scandal involving high school girls' compensated dating, which is no less then a form of prostitution. Teenage girls sell their school uniform, and sell themselves for money to buy clothes, cellphones, music players, and other valuable items. "At the peek of compensated dating boom, it was amazing. For example, at some schools, one their of the girls in a class has some experience with prostitution" - statics given Mr Miyada.

In 1991, a law was passed in Japan to ban on "compensated dating" and "children prostitution" yet the sex market still develop. The role is taken by other women in society, ranging from office workers to housewives, from high school girls to continue with "compensated dating". As revealed, Mariko, a twenty five year old woman, can triple her monthly by compensated dating. She tells: "I started compensated dating six months ago. Men still want to look at, touch, and lie next to young girls. There are some older men who come to see me in order to do that kind of thing. Some are too old to have intercourse and they try to rejuvenate themselves by touching young girls". Mr Sayada also gives in a noticeable theory: "Adult men have sex with adolescent girls because they don't have the confidence to communicate with real women."

Another intriguing tradition of Japan that you can find no other else in this world is one of their natural sexual fetish, the "Bondage". From his Tokyo studio, Mr Denki Akechi works as a rope teacher. His customers come to him to be tied up in a traditional Japanese style: "Bondage is originally Japanese, and it's something we can be very proud of. Tying human is unique, and Japan was the only country in the world to do this. In order to achieve total sexual ecstasy, the people who come here leave absolutely everything to me. They have got to be naked, both physically, and mentally." - said Mr Akechi. Customers of Mr Akechi are surprisingly all women. Yumeji Kyojo, a bondage performer describes her feelings to be tied: "When I was tied up for the first time, I was less painful that I expected. It was actually very relaxing. I love being bound because I feel great sexual pleasure and a huge release of tension".
